Getting ready for Summer
This past month, I surprised myself with how much I was enjoying the arrival of spring. It could be because of the longer and snowier than usual winter.
It could be because we’re getting into the rhythm of spring and summer kids sports. It could even be because my kids have become curious little garden helpers, too. Whatever it is, as we make the turn towards summer, I’m feeling a pull towards the awe and wonder I feel at God’s good creation.
In our readings this summer, during the season after Pentecost, our Gospel readings from Matthew will be accompanied by a favorite story from Genesis every week. We’ll be begin this Sunday with the creation themes of Genesis 1 and the reminder that we’re built for awe and wonder at the majesty of God’s good creation. In the weeks that follow, we’ll follow the story of God’s extravagant promise to Abraham. One of my favorite professors, Terry Fretheim, invited us to think about these stories of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as the stories told ‘round the fire of the ancestors of our faith. How appropriate for this summer season of s’mores and campfires!
As we celebrate the arrival of summer, here at church we’re aware that many of our members are coming and going from family events and vacations. With that in mind, on behalf of the church council I have two requests:
If you haven’t organized regular electronic giving through Simply Giving, please prayerfully consider it! You can set it up yourself by clicking “donate” on our website OR just call the office and we’ll help you get it organized.
Bring our Sunday Worship with you wherever you go with our Sunday Livestream! You’ll get straight to our YouTube channel if you search www.youtube.com/@flcoc on your internet browser. Click the “Live” button to see any of the upcoming or recent live-streamed worship services.
I’m looking forward to the many opportunities we’ll have to gather as a church both to tell our own fireside stories and to meet our neighbors at the Triple B and EveryMeal Fundraiser.
I hope to see you there! Pastor Colin
