🎶NOTES FROM YOUR MUSIC DIRECTOR 🎼
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” -Luke 2:10Greetings to Everyone,
The Gospel of Luke begins like this: “In the time of Herod…” This detail may seem minor to modern readers; however, it reveals layers of information about the fearful world Jesus entered, one filled with rampant oppression, economic disparity, uncertainty, and an instability in societal democracy… A world not unlike our own. And yet, throughout the stories of Christ’s birth, we hear the whispers of the angels delivering the message: “Do not fear.”
As we begin a new church year, let us enter into Advent with the matra “Donotfear.” Let us choose faith over fear and hopefulness over helplessness. Help us slow down, breathe, and bask in the comfort that God is with us ~ Emmanuel.
~ Prayer ~
“Give us peace today, O God. Help us to live this day and everyday with the knowledge that we are not alone. Amidst all the usual hustle and bustle in the time leading up to Christmas, help us to not forget that Advent is a season for reflection, preparation, and celebration. Grant us clarity of mind and a spirit of willingness as we await with great anticipation the coming of The Messiah, Savior of the world and the Prince of Peace.
